Giving Back To The Community
The Lawrence E. Pope Foundation was formed in 2008 by Lawrence E. Pope, founder of Pope Companies. A lifelong resident of Kernersville, Mr. Pope established the Lawrence E. Pope Foundation to improve the quality of life for Kernersville and Triad area residents. In recognition of the economic benefits his companies had given his hometown over the years, Mr. Pope received the first Lifetime Economic Development Award given by the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce in 2010.
The Lawrence E. Pope Foundation regularly supports organizations and programs of all types working for the betterment of the residents of Kernersville and surrounding areas. Since 2008, the Foundation has awarded over $570,000 in grants to such organizations as The Kernersville Foundation, Shepherd’s Center, Körner’s Folly Foundation, Forsyth Tech Foundation, UNCG Bryan School of Business & Economics, and many others. (To see a complete list, click here.)The Lawrence E. Pope Foundation also supports The Lawrence E. Pope Scholarship Fund, which is administered through The Kernersville Foundation. The Scholarship Fund offers grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to residents of the Kernersville area, with preference given to those who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a program leading to either an Associate’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of agriculture or a field of study related to the construction industry such as architecture, engineering, etc.
